Extreme Weather Policy
Please read on to become informed about this policy.
The Kooringal Golf Club Extreme Weather Policy has been introduced to reduce the risk of related injury to Members and guests and to provide guidance in relation to playing conditions in the event of extreme conditions. Extreme weather may include but not limited to heat, thunder and lightning, wet conditions, fog, wind and smoke.
Suspension of Play
In the event of extreme weather conditions, play will be suspended with the decision to suspend play made by representatives of the Match Committee. In the absence of the Match Committee, the General Manager or Golf Professional (or representative) shall determine a suspension of play.
Notice of suspension of play will be three (3) blasts (repeated) of a siren. In unsafe conditions players should return to the Clubhouse until further notice is provided.
Resumption of Play
Play will only resume when the representatives of the Match Committee have assessed the conditions that caused play to be suspended and deemed them suitable for further play. In the absence of the Match Committee, the General Manager or Golf Professional (or representative) shall determine the suitability of play.
Notice to resume play will be one (1) short blast of a siren.
Abandonment of Play
In the event of extreme conditions, play will be abandoned with the decision to abandon play made by representatives of the Match Committee. In the absence of the Match Committee, the General Manager or Golf Professional (or representative) shall determine a suspension of play.
Notice of abandonment of play will be two (2) blasts (repeated) of a siren. Players should cease play and return to the Clubhouse.
In the eventuality of cancellation, every effort will be made to re-schedule Club Board Events to another date. Normal Club Competitions will not be re-scheduled. Any competitor not able to participate on the re-scheduled day for a Board Event or who has not completed their round shall be issued a credit.
Thunder and Lightning
The following procedure will be applied at Kooringal Golf Club during Club competitions in accordance with Rule 6-8 (a).
Discontinuance of Play due to Thunder and/or Lightning In the case of lightning, players must discontinue play immediately without reference to the Match Committee under Rule 6-8 (a)(ii) and representatives of the Match Committee, General Manager or Golf Professional (or representative) should be notified. Play is not officially suspended until the siren is sounded or players are notified in person. Play will resume when the conditions have been assessed and deemed suitable for further play.
The assessment of lightning conditions will be monitored with the aid of a recognised lightning detection device with reference to information provided by the Bureau of Meteorology.
Wet Conditions
Casual Water Interference
In the event of players approaching a green which is considered unplayable due to casual water, they are required to contact the Club Office or Pro Shop to advise them of the condition of the green so that an inspection can be undertaken by representatives of the Match Committee or in their absence, the General Manager or Golf Professional (or representative) to determine the condition of the green.
The assessment of unplayable conditions is when no relief can be sought on the green, impeding the player from holing the ball. If the green is deemed to be unplayable play will be suspended. Play will resume following an assessment of the condition of the course and when deemed suitable for further play.
Other Conditions
In the event of other extreme weather conditions, including but not limited to fog, wind and smoke, the decision to suspend, abandon or resume play will be in accordance with the procedures as set out in this policy.
Emergency Evacuation
In the event of extreme conditions that necessitate the immediate evacuation of the course, play will be abandoned with the decision to abandon play made by representatives of the Match Committee. In the absence of the Match Committee, the General Manager or Golf Professional (or representative) shall determine the abandonment of play.
Notice of an emergency evacuation will be one (1) continuous blast of a siren. Players should cease play and return to the Clubhouse immediately where information will be provided.
