Kooringal Golf Club, has an 18-hole 6076 metre long Par 71 parkland Championship Course with many trees and a varied and challenging layout. Kooringal is an Aboriginal word meaning 'by the water'.
The Course, adjoining Altona's western beach is built on sandy loam that drains easily so that play is seldom interrupted by wet weather. Kooringal's excellent all-weather qualities are recognised by the VGA, which has held a number of events at the Course, including a Regional Qualifying Round for the Australian Open.
