Marty Walsh is the new Professional at Kooringal Golf Course, taking over from Mark Wishart, who has left after 8 years to pursue other golfing ventures.
Marty (39) has had a long association with Kooringal as a player, a teaching Professional and in the Pro Shop.
Adelaide-born and Melbourne-raised, Marty brings to the position 16 years experience as an accredited Australasian PGA Tour player, with several podium finshes to his name, and as a coach and teacher. He first swung one of his dad’s golf clubs at age 3, and he has played professionally (and socially) in the United States, Canada, England and Ireland, Korea, New Zealand and throughout Europe.
Highlights of his golfing career in Australia include:
Playing twice in the Australian Open (1996, 1998); in the Australian PGA (1993, 1994,1995 and 1996 - the latter with a top 20 finish); in the Greg Norman Holden International (1998) and in the Heineken Classic in Perth at the Vines (1994, 1995). He was the winner of the PGA/Channel 9 Summer Series trophy in Victoria in 1998 and was runner-up in 2003's Victoria Match Play. He placed third on the Victorian Pro-Am OOM (Order of Merit) in 1998. International highlights include attending the Canadian Tour school in 1998 and a top 10 finish in the United States on the north-eastern states tour in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1998.
