Let’s get out there and support both our teams!!!!

General Manager’s Desk

Hi to All,

Firstly, SORRY FOR BEING SO LONG BETWEEN EDITIONS. I have had a busy time with the auditors and the AGM preparations that the communicator has slipped through for a while. Sorry to those that had supplied information about different results from different pennant teams etc.

There has been plenty happening also that I can update you on. The new TV’s around the place are mainly for the new in-house promotional channel which will allow us to keep up to date with you our members a little easier. Anything special that is happening around the Club will be put up on here as well as results on competitions, changes to the syllabus just so we can keep you informed.

If you have been wondering about not seeing Bryan around for a while, well he is away having work done on his hands. He took 3 weeks annual leave and then has been on sick leave for another 5 weeks so far. We hope to see him back in early June.

Our new website has come up a treat. If you haven’t visited it recently well you will be pleasantly surprised. Thanks to Colin Cruickshank and his team for their great work.

While I am talking about Colin, the new Electronic Tee Time Booking system his company has produced for us looks great. We are in the process of trialling the system at the moment. A new computer access for you the members has been ordered and will replace the handicap computer in the golf foyer. The new system has a direct link to Golflink and will link directly into your own golflink section number to be able to check your handicap. Once the new equipment is installed in the foyers and in the Golf Pro Shop, we will be running some training for all members while it is still in its trialling stage.

I know Steven has been here a few months now but to all that haven’t met him yet, I hearty welcome to Steven Wallace our new Assistant Manager. Please make yourself known to him. Apart from anything else, he hits a nice ball and plays off six I think.

You all should be aware by now that the Government has announced changes to the way gaming machines can be operated after 2012. I can re-assure you all that we will be working very hard to get the best possible result out of these new rules for Kooringal. The Committee & I will be doing everything possible to make sure of this.

Bob & I had a meeting recently with City West Water. The completion of the recycled water project seems to be moving along the timeline they gave us. We had a recent tour of the site which seems to show the same. We can only hope they stay on time.

The AGM has come and gone. Congratulations to all who stood and especially to the ones you all elected. As both Bob & the auditors stated at the meeting, although the reporting had a few internal departmental misallocations, the result overall was still pleasing. The work done so far in reviewing how we do things is starting to show results. Our catering area, although it is already showing a $30,000 better result than the same time last year, still has a long way to go for us to be happy with the results. With Steven now taking the bulk of the daily tasks on and carrying on the review within the gaming & bar areas, this is allowing some well needed time to be spent on catering.

The up coming VGA & Colts pennant finals are basically on top of us. Both teams are guaranteed a place in the final and both will be going up a division next year. Well done to all concerned. The Club will be arranging transport to Spring Valley for the Final. We do need to have you book a seat so we can book a suitable bus. There is a list on the Golf Noticeboard in the golf foyer but if you cannot get here just send me an email or ring and ask for your name to go on the list. Be quick though as we need to book a suitably sized bus.

That’s about it from me.

Take care

Enjoy your golf.

Mark Dalmau

MEMBER’S LOUNGE ENTRY DOOR:

For years, the main doors into the Member’s Lounge from outside have had a wooden door wedge put in them to keep them open so you can either get in or get back in after a smoke. Well, the lock has been fixed and the wedge is NO LONGER required. It just has to be unlocked. So if you find you cant get in then ask the bar supervisor to arrange for the door to be unlocked, don’t put the wooden wedge back.

MEMBER COURSE DRESS REGULATIONS:

At the AGM, this topic was discussed and feedback was asked of the members present as there have been a few situations over the last few months that need to be clarified.

Firstly, if Marty or his staff from the Pro Shop talks to any member about their dress standards, they are doing this with the full backing of Committee & Management. It is a part of Marty’s contract to insure ALL persons playing golf at ALL times do so dressed in a way that is consistent with the dress standards stipulated in every member’s syllabus. So please do not kill the messenger as they are just doing their job!!!

Following on from that, the Committee is taking on board the feedback received and may revise the standards set out in the syllabus. Any changes will be communicated to all the membership with ample notice of when these changes will apply from.

The other point raised concerns defining where the “Course” dress standards start and finish. The inclusion of the new fences around the Clubhouse end of the Course has been done mainly for security reasons but it also defines the Course area as well. This means that everyone who enters the Course precinct either is a member with a member card access or they go past the front of the Pro Shop.

This also means that all the practice facilities are within this Course Precinct and therefore course dress standards DO APPLY for this area.

Ladies News

LADIES NEWS:

The ladies two Pennant sides have completed their seasons and performed quite well.

Our Section 7 Ladies finished 3rd and just missed out on a position in the final. The Section 10 Ladies finished a very credible 4th. Well done to both teams. Both Wendy Johnstone & Lorraine Purdon completed the season undefeated.

The season complete last week with a dinner back here at the Club. Thank you to the Club for supporting this dinner and for President Bob Szigeti for attending. The meals was nice and the night went really well.

Our special thanks to the team managers, Wendy Johnstone & Wilma Harley and of course the two bus drivers that got us there and back each week safely, Don Williams & Jack Hallowell.

Our recent Kooringal Ladies Guest Day was a fantastic success. We had 22 different Clubs represented with 116 players competing. Once again, the Jeanette and the catering team did well. Special thanks must also go to Qenos for sponsoring the event. Thanks.

The Ladies Committee approached the Club to put a up a clock outside that can be seen from the 1st tee. This was agreed to but before the Club could arrange it, Qenos offered to sponsor it. We have gladly accepted their kind offer and soon there will be a clock in place. Thanks again to Qenos.

Just a quick reminder to all the ladies that the Tuesday Ladies Tee Times have been changed to 8.30 – 10.00am.

We must mention that the Annual Ocean Spray Classic was held recently at Anglesea and that 3 of our ladies attended and had a fun day. They were Barb Black, Lorraine Collinder & Helen Wilson.

The RWH 4BBB competition was run and won by Margaret McCracken & Chris Paxton. These lucky winners get to represent Kooringal in the next stage, the District Final here at Kooringal on Wed 13th August. Good luck ladies.

VGA & COLTS PENNANT  with Denis Rich

With one round to go of the 2008 Pennant season both the Seniors and Colts teams are undefeated.   The Seniors are in Division 3 this year and after halving their first round contest against Huntingdale on their home course have won all the following rounds to secure a place in the final on May 25 at Spring Valley. I would also like to welcome new player, Kym Ross, to the team. The Senior squad is Dion Clemmens, Adam McCleary, Matty Drew, Darren Tyrrell, Michael Grant, Tim Mago, Kym Ross and Ian McCleary.

Currently, the Colts are on top of the Division 2 ladder and this is a great result for the team.  The Colts squad is made up from Anthony O’Brien, Marcus Spalding, Dwayne Heke, Jesse Taylor, Todd Sinnott, Felix Ferris and Carl Nepomuceno.

With only the final round of Pennant remaining, I would like to again encourage club members to come and supports our teams this season.  The Colts are playing their last round at Royal Melbourne while the VGA team is at Eastern for their round.

Don’t forget to get out and support both teams playing their final at the same course on the same day. It could be a big day for the Club. Why not come out and support the guys. Spring Valley May 25 – Book a place on the bus – BE QUICK!!

Junior News

The Friday afternoon competitions started with a fling but have slowed down now that daylight savings is over. Marilyn has put out a few new junior competition application forms recently so keep checking the folder and junior noticeboard.

Congratulations to the juniors who have taken up their scholarships this year. We look forward to assisting you with further developing you love of golf and ability to play.

What a great future our junior pennant players have got. With the Colts playing off in the Division 2 Final, this guarantees us playing in the highest division possible next year, Division 1. What a great opportunity for all our juniors.

On a different note, due to work commitments, Ian persson has stood down or will at the end of the current pennant season from being the iPrimus & Colts Pennant team manager. The Club extends a very sincere vote of thanks for a job well done. You have left the Club Juniors in a fantastic position. Thank you Ian.
