A Message from the Captain and the President

Handicap Manipulation

It is clear from the noise around the club that there is a considerable concern, amongst the Members, that some Members may not necessarily be playing to their best ability at all times.  Furthermore, because of this, their handicap may not consistently represent their true playing ability and this puts them at a distinct advantage over their fellow Members.

Your Golf Committee has been working diligently on this issue for weeks, with a number of Member handicaps actively under review.

This type of review can often be very subjective.  However, in this instance, statistics on individual performances have been gathered and are being compared, within various handicap ranges, against both, a cross-section of Kooringal Members and the broader Australian golfing community (using statistics provided by Golf Australia).

As a result of this work there is a recommendation to the Golf Committee about the management of some individual’s handicaps now, but importantly the adoption of the policy to be introduced as a method of operation moving forward.

The action and policy will be reviewed and finalised at the next Golf Committee meeting due 20th February 2018 and then submitted to the Board at its meeting scheduled for 27th February 2018 to be ratified
